Get to know Dr. Abrahams

John Abrahams, MD, is a highly regarded, board-certified neurosurgeon who specializes in the treatment of complex disorders of the brain and spine.


Dr. Abrahams’ practice is located at Brain & Spine Surgeons of New York where he is also the organization’s president. In addition, Dr. Abrahams is Chief of Neurosurgery at Northern Westchester Hospital, and the hospital’s co-director of the spine section of their Orthopedic and Spine Institute. Additionally, Dr. Abrahams is Associate Professor of New York Medical College, Westchester County Medical Center, where he helps shape future physicians.


Dr. Abrahams graduated from Le Moyne College with a degree in Physics and Chemistry. He then completed a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute before starting medical school at New York Medical College. After medical school, he completed his surgical internship at New York University Medical Center and then completed his residency in neurological surgery from the University of Pennsylvania.


During his residency, Dr. Abrahams completed a spine fellowship and a research fellowship at the prestigious Institute for Medicine and Engineering. After residency, he spent two years at Montefiore Medical Center performing complex spine surgery as well as cerebrovascular surgery under the mentorship of Dr. Eugene Flamm.
